La La Land Film Review

Good day Friends!

Hope you are well, so I have just seen the new award winning film "La La Land" and I have a few thoughts that I would like to share on this new film and all the awards and hype that it has been getting. Also before I begin, I know that there a lot of adorers of this film that can't go a minute without raving about their favourite song or scene but these are my views and thoughts on what I saw so yeah they are going to be a bit biased because I probably do have a different movie taste than you.
 
Okay so I saw the film this after noon and I have to say that bringing tissues would be a great idea, as not only is it so beautifully created, it also has some moments that are real tear jerkers. The film is the story of Mia, a young wannabe actress working in a coffee shop in the middle of Hollywood, and Sebastian, a dedicated musician with big dreams with what he wants to do with his music. Both of them keep running into each other during the madness of finding a place in Holly Wood and start to believe that maybe it isn't just coincidence anymore.

The style of the film is a mix of old Hollywood and a new modern edge that really makes it unique as the directors have done a great job reviving the old classic musical and made it into something that even younger watchers will enjoy. From all of these, I can quite clearly see why the film picked up so many awards for the efforts.

I would agree with the people saying that the casting was done well, as Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling did an excellent job with keeping the chemistry between the two characters and (I think) surprised us all with not only astounding vocals but also clean cut and well choreographed modern and tap dance routines.

I also absolutely adored the clothing styles of this modern Hollywood, here are a few examples because I think that you will have to agree:

I think that the story line was really beautiful and really shows how aspirations and careers can help but also get in the way of true love. I also really enjoyed the way that they added technology and phones into what seemed like such a classic Hollywood town. But I do also think that the film has been hyped up so much by all the awards and people coming back from watching it and saying that

it was the best musical they've ever seen. In truth although this was a really great film, it still doesn't rate too highly on my movie top ten.

Really I think that, although it was extremely enjoyable, it wasn't entirely my kind of film because of the lack of action and fantasy. But I've got to hand it to the directors, there were no clichés at all! But yeah I really think that anyone who hasn't seen it yet and maybe thinks that they wouldn't like it because 'It's not their kind of film' ,should really think about giving it a go.

I think that's all I can really say, without giving too much for those few people who haven't seen it yet. So yeah, what did you think?

Quotes are a lovely thing, I like to use them in art and calligraphy and also help me keep going when I'm feeling down. I really do hope that they help you feel the same. My favourite has to be 'The most dangerous woman of all is the one that refuses to rely on your sword to save her because she carries her own' and I don't know why but I just feel quite moved by it.

Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children movie review

Good day friends!
Hope you are feeling well, and are basking in the new year of the Rooster.

Okay so Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children, you may love it or hate it but one things for sure: it absolutely is top of my book to screen films! I know that a lot of you will disagree, especially because of the way that the ages, relationships and personalities are changed but I actually think that they improved the story, although that is coming from someone who has a soft spot for movie romance.

The film is all about a young boy called Jake trying to find where his Grandpa lived in his childhood after escaping the war, and the secrets that he uncovers whilst searching around a forgotten Island off the coast of Wales. What he finds is a house stuck in time (a time loop), containing a few children who identify as peculiar from the weird quirks and powers that they have.

Every emotion is explored so deeply you can exactly feel and understand how the characters feel and you can justify in your head what they are doing and why they are. The characters are well acted and I think that the change of ages was done completely right, and the casting of the film was so well done.

I think that Tim Burton really did the books justice whilst also adding his own dash of exceptional creepy tension. The different powers and quirks were created in such a way visually that you can imagine this Island actually being real; an isolated yet misunderstood Island where special children stayed in the safety of their loop.

I really don't want to spoil what happens in the film because this is basically a whole new world that I feel is best discovered on your own. The books are amazing but quite different to the films. Ransom Riggs has to be one of the best writers I know at building suspense and incorporating those photos into the pages was really good for giving you more information about the characters and giving you a clearer idea of what the characters look like as well.  He added these photos that show the way people looked, and the creepy atmosphere they give really helps the aesthetic of the whole story.

But to the negatives, there may only be a few but this should be an unbiased review so giving you my entire thought process would be a good idea. Okay so switching around the peculiarities didn't really add anything for me and I think that I might have enjoyed the film a bit more if the Emma in the film also had fire powers not air. Another small thing is that the history and past of a character is not really gone into, and I feel like if you were shown a bit more then you could show a bit more compassion about what the characters do and how they react.

Okay, so fandoms..

Good Day friends,

How are you today? Sounds good.
For today I just wanted a simple chat with you, a little one on one, and I mean this in the least creepy way possible.
So fandoms. There are so many out there and there is certainly one for everyone and everything.
An official definition for what I'm talking about now is:
'the fans of a particular person, team, fictional series etc. regarded collectively as a community or subculture.'
Also if you've never heard of these fandoms and haven't been sucked in yet, please just run, run and never look back at this world.

I am part of quite a few of these fandoms including:
'The Merlinians' (or as I like to call us 'Dollop Heads') - Fans of the BBC TV series Merlin
'The Phandom' (or as I usually say 'Human Trash Cans') - Fans of Dan and Phil
'The Young Bloods' - Fans of Fall Out Boy
and
'The Whovians' - Fans of Doctor Who

Normally I think that Fandoms are a great thing, they allow for everyone who enjoys the same thing
to join together (in an introverted and safe way) and create lovely and happy edits or fanfictions.

Having these different fandoms make it a lot easier to find a community that you like and not feel completely weird whilst fan girling in a way that you never would in a normal situation.

But I do sometimes feel like there are a few bad sides to all of these groups. There is already some tension between people on the internet and when arguments between the different groups occur, there can be some serious casualties. Also sometimes there can be shaming between the different groups.

An example of this is the amount of people who think that all of the phandom are overprotective of Dan and Phil and that we will get really aggressive if someone doesn't ship Dan and Phil together. This ,for most people in the phandom, is totally not true and the people are mostly so understanding. And also not everyone in the phandom ships them together, and that is fine.

Best films ever!

Good day Friends!

So you may have noticed by now that I love films, which is a very true observation, well done you.
Also I don't really have a specific genre as a favourite, musicals and rom coms are great but I also like horror, fantasy and romance.
My absolute favourites have to be Ever After, The Dressmaker, and probably any Disney movie where the woman isn't helpless.

Hercules will always be one of my favourite films just for the sassiness from Hades and attitude from Meg (who is also my favourite Disney lady). I mean the original Disney movies are good and all but the way the princesses are just waiting around for a prince to turn up doesn't make them seem like the greatest role model to me. Another great Princess is Merida; you don't see her just waiting around, she literally fights for herself just like Mulan and Tiana.

The dress maker is such a great film because of all the twists in the story, powerful characters and shows how fame and money can make you deceitful and paranoid. It stars Kate Winslet who takes on the role of Tilly Dunnage with such grace and understanding.

Okay so I love a good fantasy romance: Stardust, Ever After, Edward Scissor hands and The Phantom of the opera, and by the end I always end up dreaming that I was part of their story too.

Music

Good day Friends!

Hope you are having a spiffing week and I promise not to use that word again I am so sorry. For today I would like to talk about music. All the different genres and artists, and the decades of great music that have become before us and inspired what we listen to right now.

Let me get this straight first, although I do not like modern pop music that doesn't mean that I hate it and think that no one should be listening to it. If you it then that's great. But my music taste mainly consists of rock and what I really don't know what to call except something that doesn't really fit into any particular genre or maybe too many. Also a lot of it is musicals and soundtracks from films.

For a lot of time I will obsess over just one song and listen to it over and over again until I'm utterly sick of it, I also do this a lot with films and I'm not sure if this is normal or not. At the moment it's the song 'Not today' by Imagine Dragons from the film Me before you, which I may have mentioned a couple of times about.

One of the most influential artists I have ever listened to is David Bowie. His songs were powerful and helped people know that they could be anything and do anything. I loved his different personas and all the colourful outfits and meaningful music videos. Also his role in the Labyrinth was pretty amazing, Jareth the Goblin King has a special place in my heart.

At the moment my favourite band has to be Panic at the disco but I don't really pay as much attention to the artist as I do to the song. I get my favourite songs from movie soundtracks not really what my friends or anyone else is talking about.

Angus thongs and perfect snogging has a really lovely soundtrack because it always reminds me of Brighton and the sea and all the food and people. The whole thing has a really uplifting vibe and I love it.

Me before you's soundtrack is good and takes you through all the emotions from the films but the actual classical score is so relaxing and good to listen to when studying or drawing.

When I draw or write I usually have music in the background. When I walk I'm listening to music. When I relax I'm listening to music. And when I am trying to sleep I will listen to music. I think this is because there are so many different genres for these times and I'm still trying to find my style of music.

They should have a genre of music for the misallaneous and the stuff that is a mix of everything and is influenced by so much.

My favourite musicals have to be Grease, Phantom of the opera and oh literally any Disney film except Frozen. And the best song from all of those has to be Out there from Hunch Back of Notre dame.

Wrapping up a year

Good day Friends!

I hope you have a good new year celebration and if you have not yet celebrated a new year then have fun whenever the time comes around! I also hope that you are looking forward to a whole new year for new beginnings. Speaking of new beginnings, I have of course started my year as I mean to go on and have started with my resolution of wearing new and clothes and socks and scarves. I am also exploring what I can do with my hair to coincide with the new clothes.

I thought that I could just wrap up my 2016 with some top tens, because you know everyone loves a good list, and also please remember that this is just my opinion and of course so is this entire blog.
